Effective And Aware Of Your Legal Costs

criminalIf you are under investigation for a misdemeanor or have already been charged, you are likely feeling more desperate about your circumstances than any time in your life. The steps you take to hire the right lawyer may be one of the most important decisions you face over the next days and weeks.

I am attorney Tyler Czapla, of TLC Law, PLLC, in Tyler. Since 2011, I have been aggressively and successfully protecting the rights of adults facing misdemeanor charges in Smith County and the surrounding counties in East Texas. I even represent those determined to be too poor to afford retained counsel; I currently take misdemeanor criminal appointments in Smith, Van Zandt, Cherokee and other East Texas counties. I am proud of my record of success, and my reputation for integrity among county prosecutors and judges.

My Successful Criminal Defense Record

I have a successful record representing adults charged with many misdemeanors and more serious felonies:

  • DWI first offense, second and third offense DWI
  • Serious traffic violations, driver's license revocation hearings
  • Narcotics offenses, drug possession and distribution
  • Fraud, ID theft, credit card fraud and check forgery
  • Assault, domestic violence, harassment
  • Property offenses, breaking and entering
  • Disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct
  • Robbery, armed robbery
  • State guns and weapons charges

Juvenile Law — My Primary Focus

I place a particular focus on protecting the interests of minors facing charges of delinquent conduct in juvenile courts throughout East Texas, including representation at detention hearings and adjudication and disposition hearings.

Common charges juveniles face include:

  • Theft and shoplifting
  • Drug charges
  • Assault and violent crimes
  • Minor in possession of alcohol
  • Loitering, truancy and curfew violations

Why Does Integrity Matter?

It may be of some comfort to know that misdemeanor charges rarely go to trial. That is true of most felony charges, as well. Most charges are reduced or dismissed through skillful negotiations with the prosecutor. My integrity means I can be trusted when working out alternatives to the harsh penalties that can result from a conviction. It means when I bring a proposal to the table, the judge and assistant district attorneys (ADA) are more likely to listen with an open mind, because I have earned their trust.

Taking Your Case To Trial

After reviewing your case and determining the ADA may not have sufficient evidence for a conviction, you can count on me to aggressively fight to keep a conviction off your record, including going to trial, if necessary.

Post-Sentencing Issues

Many criminal cases don't end after initial sentencing. Individuals can find it difficult to comply with probation and face motions to revoke, which can lead to severe punishments if not handled appropriately. Parole violations can also lead to severe consequences. Finally, many clients find the most lasting effect of a criminal charge or conviction is how it affects job opportunities. Convictions and even a deferred adjudication can show up on employer background checks. These public records can be expunged via an order of nondisclosure.
